牛頭怪非常貪吃，會吃光所有看到的食物。但是嘶叫薩滿的指引號角教會了獸群儲存肉食的重要性，因為食物有盈餘之日也有短缺之時。在獵物稀少的日子裡，儲存點肉食就能派上用場，把一些快腐爛的肉丟進火坑中，任由那些最飢餓也是最兇殘的野獸人爭食。
