Communal Rice Paddies

Though rice paddies have high yields, they are very labour intensive. The sowing of seeds, protecting the crops from pests and cultivation of the rice requires many hands. To mitigate this, independent farmers can join their fields to form communal rice paddies.

Workers, tools, techniques and experience are shared for mutual benefit. The flooding of fields is done on a larger scale, and the crops sown and harvested in rotation, so there is always a new crop starting as another is harvested.

Each farmer will not weather bad luck alone, but instead has the support of their neighbours, and all share in the profits.
