Grand Irrigation Canals

Grand irrigation canals divert and control flow from tributaries, and channel the water to local farms for irrigation. A plentiful supply of water, flooded under controlled conditions and at the right time, will vastly improve the yield, speed and quality of agricultural crops.

Sluice gates and chain pumps, powered by waterwheels or oxen, are some of the technical advances in irrigation, and part of the work involves ensuring these are maintained and repaired so they stay functional.
