Armoured Armenian Archers

Defence is often more important in ranged combat than just shooting arrows.

On the battlefield, an archer's aim is either his greatest skill or his most glaring weakness. Arrows have great power and impact, but if aimed slightly off target are little more than a distraction for the enemy. Mainly, ancient archers used the broadhead arrow, used for both war and hunting. Some marksmen employed three-bladed broadheads, or tribolate arrowheads, that could easily cut through flesh. The larger, stronger men among their number were also equipped with heavier armour, ignoring speed for the ability to take an arrow themselves and not necessarily be killed outright.
