Together, with Caesar’s backing, they were able to pass a law granting the five-year extension to his imperium that he so desperately desired, while awarding the provinces of Hispania and Syria to themselves. Hispania to Pompey; Syria to Crassus, giving themselves direct control of the revenue and military might of these provinces.
