Their proud nature struggles to acknowledge that we, the Etruscans, taught them everything they know - we gave them their alphabet, numerals, architecture, art, religion, and styles of dress. Even the toga, worn with such Roman dignity, is an Etruscan invention. Before we brought them under our yoke, they were little more than illiterate sheep-herders, and we are superior still. Their simple minds are so easy to convince and to take advantage of.
