Funerary Arts

To honour our beloved dead we practice both cremation and inhumation. The tombs of the old families then house their ancestors' remains. The top of a sarcophagus is usually decorated with an image of the deceased, alone or with a spouse. This custom is our gift to the world; our Roman neighbours have since borrowed it, like so many other things. In recent times, we've observed a surge in the production of terracotta urns in northern Etruria. It is, unquestionably, good that more of our kin are able to honour their dead appropriately. At the same time, this new mass production carries the risk of reduced quality.
