阿皮亚是西徐亚的大地女神，并且在希罗多德看来，她在诸神中有着重要的地位。对于漫步在草原上的游牧民来说，大地女神阿皮亚的领域看上去无边无际。希罗多德一如既往地将她以希腊文化的形式展现给读者，比作希腊的大地女神盖亚。如果这个类比准确的话，她便是其他诸多神灵的母亲，甚至是地球本身的生母。希罗多德对于有关阿皮亚的仪式闭口不谈，不过我们或许可以推断，和其他游牧诸神相似，动物献祭也一定在对她的崇拜中占了一席之地。在陵墓中发现了精心雕刻的牡鹿，这些生物很可能被视为圣物并献给阿皮亚
