东方的骑兵部队受到了希腊和波斯的影响，波斯流行用重型的鳞甲保护着骑士和战马。塞琉古国王拥有着两支1000人的精英骑兵部队，这两支部队由安条克三世仿造帕提亚的重骑兵组建而成。

有了亚历山大和波斯的先例，重骑兵成为了东方国家将军们手中的制胜法宝，他们可以在敌人包抄己方战阵之前将敌人赶走，或者发现敌人战阵中可被突破的薄弱部分。使用楔形战阵可以有效地冲入敌阵
