Для многих людей мир ограничен их родной деревней.Небольшие общины, которые занимались земледелием, рыбной ловлей, торговлей или добычей руды, обеспечивали рост греческих городов-государств, а позднее и эллинистические державы, снабжая их всем необходимым сырьем.
