The landlubber finds sea legs in the same place as gold and glory. While tribal societies were not great seafarers across the deeps, the opportunities for trading and raiding by sea were appreciated: coastal trade was certainly possible. As the Mediterranean powers began to sail in the Atlantic, trade from areas such as Cornwall and Brittany proved profitable. Tin, in particular, was a much sought after resource as it was needed to make bronze. As great traders, the Carthaginians established the sea-trade, but it showed the locals where there were riches to be had. The Gallic Veneti tribe, for example, became renowned for their skill as shipwrights. Their use of oak and iron in the construction of their vessels made them incredibly strong, as the Romans discovered when Caesar’s fleet met sturdy Veneti ships in 56BC.

Medium Ship / 飛び道具艦 / (Bar_Missile_Raider_Nomad) Missile Raider - Skuda Fistaeg Fat Aexsdzhytae Small raiding boats, with crews large enough to board enemy vessels. (Scythian Foot Archers) These archers are not well outfitted for hand to hand combat, as all they carry is a short sword or small pickaxe, and no armour but their thick jackets and bashlyk felt caps. If unsupported, they will be easy prey for cavalry or aggressive infantry who are fast enough to catch them. |

Medium Ship / 近接艦 / (Bar_Raider_Nomad) Assault Raider - Saka Tapabara Small raiding boats, with crews large enough to board enemy vessels. (Saka Axemen) In addition to their iron sagaris axes, these warriors carry fire-hardened javelins. For protection, they carry square reed shields reinforced with leather, which, though light, are very resistant to missiles. They are best used for flanking already engaged foes or as lightly armoured shock troops, but if tied up in a lengthy melee against more organised or professional enemy warriors, they will soon break and flee. |
