兵士用テント
Organising levies requires planning and space.Mustering a force required careful planning. Levies were often expected to provide their own arms, such as spear and shield, or javelins and even bows. If this was not done, they would have to be outfitted at the expense of the state treasury. This took time, and the easiest way to get everyone organised and equipped was in temporary camps. Dependent on circumstances and population, permanent quarters or barracks for levies would be built. Barrack-based troops could be used to supplement town watches or to patrol borders and guard trade routes. Even so, conscript levies were usually poorly trained, and more lightly equipped than noble, professional or mercenary soldiers.

Melee Infantry / 近接歩兵 / (Aet_axum_nobles) Aithiopikoi Pelekuphoroi (Noble Axemen of Axum) Raised from among the higher social groups of the Aethiopians, these noblemen are armed with a double headed axe and a shield. Highly skilled, these men can easily break through an enemy line of lower quality infantry. They can inflict substantial damage, even to well-protected enemies. |

Melee Infantry / 近接歩兵 / (Aet_Sword) Surby Kushim (Aethiopian Swordmen) Aethiopian Swordsmen are in most cases raised from the population living along the coastlands of the Erythrean Sea by foreign overlords or Aethiopian rulers heavily influenced by foreigners and their ways. These men are equipped with helmets and shields only, as body armor would only burden a soldier in the hot climate of Aethiopia. They also carry swords and javelins into battle. They are the elite among Aethiopian troops, and can be expected to fulfil their role as assault infantry if properly used. |
