Fucina del bronzo

Un guerriero ha sempre bisogno di un’arma a cui affidarsi.

Grazie all’usanza tribale di offrire voti agli dèi dei fiumi e dei corsi d’acqua, sono stati ritrovati molti manufatti in bronzo in fondo ai laghi e ai fiumi in tutta Europa. Il Tamigi deve aver avuto un’importanza particolare per le tribù locali, in quanto sul suo fondale, nel corso degli anni, è stato ritrovato un alto numero di manufatti in bronzo. Nel 1868 fu trovato l’elmo di Waterloo, un oggetto cerimoniale a due corni e, in seguito, dal fiume furono estratti anche gli scudi di Wandsworth e Battersea, ora custoditi al British Museum. Come l’elmo, si ritiene che anche lo scudo di Battersea fosse un oggetto cerimoniale non presentando segni di danni, o di essere stato attaccato ad una base di legno che lo avrebbe reso abbastanza resistente da essere usato in battaglia.

They wield bronze axes and have sturdy round shields. Their scale leather provides adequate protection against Scythian arrows and Bastarnae spears but will do little to stop a heavy, curved falx blade. These fast, hardy troops are best used in ambushes, hit-and-run attacks, or flanking manoeuvres against heavier warriors, but are fierce enough to stand in the battle line if the situation demands it.

They are hardy mountaineers, but too poor to afford better equipment than weapons like wooden-tipped javelins and shock weapons like the battleaxe.

They wear studded leather armour and trousers and are armed with bows. Their incessant fighting in more recent years against migrating Celtic tribes led many of them to adopt the Celtic-style longsword, which makes them deadly when closing in for the kill. Unlike most other archers though, these men can perform well in close combat, although they are most effective against weakened, exposed, or tired foes.

Well protected, but more agile than the late Roman legionaries, these elites use the terrific cutting power of their falxes to disrupt the enemy lines, or to exploit the gap created by the regular Drapanai.

These warriors wear mail shirts, and Phrygian helmets over their traditional wool shirts and trousers, befitting their status as professionals.

While the average Getic soldier tells himself he is immortal, more than any others the Drapanai join battle without fear of death. They fight bare-chested, wearing only trousers. Their trademark though is the falx, a vicious blade capable of severing limbs and causing horrible wounds with a single, crushing blow. Their lack of armour is a drawback against concentrated enemy missile fire, so they should not be exposed to enemy ranged attacks needlessly.

They carry no armour to speak of, except small round shields, and are armed with slings and a dagger. They are usually very young men and their role is merely to try and force the enemy into acting rashly; however, troops lacking armour can still pay dearly facing when them.
