Un occhio artistico può rivelarsi utile e vantaggioso.

Molti autori romani tentarono di ridurre i Celti a un popolo rozzo che non viveva altro che per la guerra. Quando descrive i Celti della Valle del Po, Polibio commenta: “Conducono una vita molto semplice e non hanno alcuna conoscenza di arte o scienza.” Grazie ai ritrovamenti archeologici, oggi sappiamo che questa era una semplificazione di una società altrimenti molto complessa e in tutta Europa è possibile ammirare begli esempi di arte celtica che ci raccontano un’altra storia. Oggetti come il calderone di Gundestrup e lo specchio di Desborough dimostrano che i Celti erano ottimi fabbri e avevano un occhio artistico e l’abilità di raccontare storie attraverso la propria arte. L’intricata decorazione del calderone ci è giunta intatta grazie alla torbiera in cui è stato scoperto. Il vetro usato per raffigurare gli occhi dei personaggi ci dà un’idea delle eccellenti abilità artistiche e artigianali degli uomini che hanno prodotto il calderone.

They are trained to throw javelins, charge, and withdraw repeatedly, and they do it well. They are so named for their speed, rather than equipment. A bronze helmet, shield, and light weapons may not seem the equipment of any particularly great cavalry, but they are a solid medium cavalry force, capable of running down routers, defeating light cavalry, and skirmishing if necessary.
