Syracuse (Occupied)
Strategic Hellenistic capital.

Infantería de proyectiles / Infantería de proyectiles / (AOR_10_Crossbows) Gastraphetes (Crossbow Infantry) This unit is the forerunner of medieval arbalesters. The gastraphetes crossbow, however, is more a handheld siege weapon than a battlefield weapon. The army of Syracuse was one of the first to use this weapon, with one unit of psiloi under the tyrant Dionisyus I. Later, this weapon would find its way into the Macedonian army of Alexander, used during several sieges by specially trained soldiers to kill city defenders. |

Infantería de proyectiles / Infantería de proyectiles / (AOR_10_Dart_Slingers) Kestrosphendones (Dart Slingers) The kestros is a dart thrown by a specially made sling, or propelled by a staff on a sling. It takes a long time to reload, but allows for more deadly and accurate shots than any other weapon of the time if correctly used, thanks to the shape of the darts, which can fly straight and precise trajectories. This weapon is mentioned in a Polybian account about new weapons in the army of Perseus, shortly before the last open confrontation between the Macedonians and the Roman Republic (169-168 BCE)."""" |

Infantería cuerpo a cuerpo / Infantería cuerpo a cuerpo / (AOR_10_Sicily_Bruttian_Infantry) Pezoi Brettioi (Bruttian Infantry) The Bruttii come from the southern extremity of Italy. These Bruttian troops are dependable medium infantry. They carry two pila, which they throw before engaging in close combat with their swords. They are well armoured with a variety of bronze pectorales, typical of the Oscan warrior class. Their helmets show Greek and Italian influence, known as Italo-Attic. They fought for Pyrrhus during his invasion of Italy. |

Infantería cuerpo a cuerpo / Infantería con pica / (Ste_Indo_Greek_Nobles) Indohellenikoi Eugeneis Hoplitai (Indo-Hellenic Noble Hoplites) The Saka know a good thing when they see it, so not only do they keep hoplites as a fighting force, but they have also enhanced them with their own people and fighting elements, and use this elite force to further cement their Indian state. They wear an evolved Boeotian helmet, bronze cuirasses decorated with Indian motifs, pteryges, perikneimides (full greaves) and of course a heavy bronze hoplon shield to complete their armour. An iron-tipped spear is their primary weapon, but should the need arise they are also armed with an evolved kopis, or khukhri as the Indians call it, a medium sized slashing sword made of Indian steel. |

Infantería cuerpo a cuerpo / Infantería con pica / (Ste_Saka_Heavy_Hoplites) Hoplitai Hellenikon (Saka Heavy Hoplites) The Hoplitai Hellenikon are an extraordinarily heavily armoured evolution of the ancient hoplites of Hellas, combining the traditional Hellenic phalanx with the superb defense afforded by the preferred scale armour of the steppes. They are among the most disciplined of infantry forces, lumbering forward under the cover of their extended spears, thick helmets, bronze greaves, and massive hoplons, while each man's torso is encased in a heavy suit of scale. |
