El ultramundo celta era un paraíso al que los celtas creían viajar tras su muerte. Muchos mitos y leyendas lo describen como una isla, y otras tantas historias describen el viaje de los muertos más allá del horizonte. El filósofo bizantino Procopio de Cesarea dio constancia de las creencias de las tribus de la Galia e hizo notar que creían que el ultramundo estaba al oeste de Britania, la Gran Bretaña actual. Según Procopio, los galos creían que cuando una persona moría, su alma viajaba a la costa. Una vez allí, tocaba a las puertas de las casas de los pescadores y les suplicaba que les llevase por el mar. Los pescadores llevaban su alma por mar hasta su destino y luego volvían a casa, no revelando jamás el lugar exacto del ultramundo.
