Los historiadores griegos a veces describían a las tribus bárbaras como gente errante que vivía de la caza y sabía poco sobre la ganadería y construcción. Nada más lejos de la realidad. Se han descubierto un gran número de estructuras que demuestran que los llamados "bárbaros" tenían un buen conocimiento de las técnicas de construcción y podían construir casas y defensas que han sobrevivido durante miles de años.

Los Brochs, edificios de piedra seca que se encuentran en Escocia, sobrevivieron a las duras condiciones meteorológicas y ofrecen información interesante sobre la gente que los construyeron. They traditionally fight naked and heavily tattooed. Their ferocious appearance and demeanor cause fear in the enemy, as Celtic psychological warfare has been integrated as a tactic in its own right.

They have few truly military tasks. They act as a rearguard, mostly to protect the baggage train on campaign, and to support the more experienced Bagaudas in a line. But these men are not experienced and have no training, so they are more useful as a local defence militia.
