I use the "save parser" tool for TW games, to get more than 20 units in an army.
And I am using mods (x3 unit size or these with 480 roman units) to get the original size of a roman cohort (= 480 men).
10 cohorts + 48 scorpions + 120 roman horsemen + war dogs are 1 realistic Legion (= around 5000 romans) without the attached auxiliary (meaning is = none latin) units.

In this build there are 11 cohorts, because the first cohort has the double size of a normal cohort (around 800 men). So I use 2 units to get the correct size of this early legion.

Field battles:
double line romans ("double acies" formation) -> behind them = archers, Scorpions, Onagers, war dogs, general (in this order) -> flanks secured by cavalry
… just enjoy the battles with the camera mode :)

This is an multitasking army that can beat the enemy in field and in siege battles (without waiting for siege equipment)…

Siege battles:
"Tear down this wall!" with Onagers, Catapults or Ballistas after destroying the towers in the area. You only need good weather conditions for the scorpions to burn down wooden towers from barbarian tribes.
Use the "big stonetrowers" not with autofire to save ammunition.
Coordinate your range attacks with the archers to kill as much enemies as possible, before moving in with your cohorts.

If you ever used 48 Scorpions in the field, you will love them like I do. :)

The dogs are a "must have" in the roman army, They make a good job vs. Missile Infantry, light and medium Melee Infantry and can be a big Problem for cavalry units... release them by contact of the last enemy unit with the roman "meat wall".
