
Palmyrene Palace Guard
Handpicked for their battle prowess, they are the strongest defenders of Palmyra.Palmyra had limited choice when it came to a source of strong warriors, but the available candidates were nevertheless of high quality; King Odaenathus had raised an army of heavily-armoured troops from among his bodyguard and the nearby tribes, who were employed as a mobile force of cataphractii and horse archers. Infantry was also important to Palmyra's military, since northern Arabia had many forts and castles in defensible ravines, intended to repel the raids of neighbouring tribes. Only the strongest cavalrymen were selected to be part of the royal palace guard. Clad in lamellar armour and equipped with Iranian-style swords and daggers, the Palace Guards were among the toughest eastern warriors.
