The Samnites are people of the mountains, their lands being located in central Italy. The fertility of the region may be modest but it enjoys а generous supply of wood and other natural resources. The Samnite people are fierce and brave warriors. As part of the Italian tribes they are distant relatives of the Romans. Naturally, it is with the sons of Romulus and Remus that the Samnites share the most cultural similarities. Their ambitions are focused purely on the establishment of a safe and prosperous nation, which can be achieved by first securing the inviolability of their lands. There are many who would consider such an undertaking to be an impediment to their own goals and ambitions; the Greek city of Taras in the south, the Senones in the northeast and the Samnites’ Latin cousins from Rome in the northwest will not hesitate to enforce their own policies and interests at the expense of anyone who stands in their way!
