It is generally believed that Nuragic tombs were constructed in a semi-circular shape to serve as an arena, so fighters could participate in funeral games in honour of the deceased. The athletes usually carried a weapon similar to the cestus glove, which wraps the forearm in a rigid sheet usually made of bronze or another malleable metal. On the other arm, they carried a rectangular, convex shield. Nuragic funerary games may also have served as a form of military training, as their warriors often sported the same armaments in battle.
