NOTE: This is a portrayal of historical fiction describing what would happen if Dauphin Charles had invaded England in 1360 (before the Treaty of Bretigny) to rescue his captured father, John II of France.
The King of France was a prisoner. His 22-year-old son wanted revenge. And the French navy was on the move. Prince Edward of Woodstock, better known as the Black Prince, had gotten word of the attack, forced John II into house arrest in London, and hurriedly gathered an army of mostly archers, and reached the coast near Dover, where the French navy was preparing to land. After the French landed and massacred the small English garrison sent from Dover to attack. When the French started to prepare a base to siege Dover, Edward has his archers shoot from the cliffs near Dover, while his cavalry rushed through the city to make sure it was safe, then caught the French in a pincer between the meager amount of knights and his infantry. After about twenty minutes of bloody melee combat, the Dauphin landed on the shore himself with his Gendarmes and launched a counter-attack, but Edward's archers managed to keep off French at the cliffs until the Dauphin caught Edward and his guards surrounded by pikes. However, at that moment, a great fleet of warships from the Netherlands under Count William V of Holland and his brother Duke Albert I of Bavaria-Straubing arrived, landing Flemish and German forces and forcing the French navy to flee to Normandy. The Dauphin was killed by the Black Prince and what French soldiers that remained surrendered. The Black Prince returned to London in glory and related, reluctantly with sorrow, to John II the death of his son.
