Sky Lantern

A floating symbol of Cathay's pre-eminence, powered by the burning wings of magical Warbirds.

Sky Lanterns are used by the Dragon Emperor’s armies to observe enemies from on high, as well as direct troops in battle. Held aloft by a caged Vermillion Warbird – the creature's burning wings giving the great balloon lift – a Sky Lantern holds an armoured gondolier beneath its bulk. From this gondolier one of the Lord Magistrate’s best strategists uses fans and banners to signal troops, or direct the fire of the army’s war machines. Should enemy flyers or missile troops get too close, a pair of Crane Gunners snipe from their exceptional vantage point.
