Eldred's Guard (Spearmen - Shields)

Only the most-disciplined and highly-trained are suitable for service with Solland's elite guard regiment.

State troops are paid as full-time professional soldiers, ready to answer the call to arms at all times. In addition to forming a standing army to repel enemy attack, they also serve as city guards, the fire watch and the enforcers of the law. However, most of the time these soldiers spend their days drilling and training to the barked instructions of grim-faced Sergeants. Each Imperial state trains its regiments to fight together, providing each other with mutual protection on the battlefield. A detachment of Spearmen or Halberdiers will bravely intercept the enemy, cutting them down with their bladed polearms.

Attributes

  • Expert Charge Defence
When bracing, this unit negates the charge bonus of any attacker.
  • Charge Reflection
When bracing, this unit deals additional damage when attacking charging enemies.
  • Encourage
This unit provides a leadership bonus to nearby allies. Units within range of both the Lord's aura and an encouraging unit will receive the larger of the two bonuses.
  • Hide (forest)
This unit can hide in forests until enemy units get too close.

Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Armoured & Shielded
Armoured units can block damage from any source apart from Armour-Piercing damage. Shields have a chance of blocking arrows, bolts, rifle shots and similar small arms fire - but only in a forward facing arc.
  • Charge Defence Against All
When standing and bracing against a charge this unit will negate the enemy's charge bonus.
  • Anti-Large
Anti-large units have an advantage against targets that are at least as large as a horse. This advantage can be a damage bonus against large targets or an attack that focuses on a very small area. However, some units are simply better against large targets because their attacks are slow and easy to dodge by skilled melee combatants.
