The Red Duke (Zombie Dragon)

“’Good’? I spit on ‘good’! I desire only power, and you watch, for I shall have it!”

The histories of Bretonnia are littered with dukes who err from the path of righteousness and fall, irreparably, into madness and depravity. So it is with the Red Duke; a warrior of terrifying renown who now wages war across Bretonnia in search of ever-greater power. He is an Undead scourge upon the kingdom, but it was not always so. He was once the Duke of Aquitaine, a mighty warrior who quested determinedly in the Lady’s name. However, he was struck down by mysterious illness that claimed his body and ravaged his soul. He was interred by his Knights in a grand tomb worthy of his successes, yet he rose again three nights later as a vicious, hateful Vampire, in defiance of all things good and natural. Uncaring of the life he had before, the Red Duke now takes residence in the cursed city of Mousillon, warring endlessly against King Louen, desiring that Bretonnia yield entirely to him or face total annihilation!

Abilities

  • Pestilential Breath
Some Dragons breathe noxious fumes that have a long-lasting effect on their target's coordination - if it survived the attack in the first place.
  • El Syf
The so-called 'Northern Sword' fears no duel; anyone who dares confront him will surely meet their death!
  • Foe-Seeker
There are those who wish nothing more than to be at the heart of battle, seeking foes to vanquish.
  • Swarm of Flies
Flies surround this rotting creature, making combat even harder as the swarm buzzes into mouths, ears and other vulnerable orifices!
  • The Hunger
As the Vampires rip apart their victims they feast on the blood that spills forth – gaining in strength and lost stamina.
  • Frenzy
Some warriors care not for their own personal safety and so work themselves into a whirlwind of destruction and mindless violence!
  • Crumbling
The dead do not rest easily in the Old World. Those summoned by Vampires and Necromancers no longer have mortal concerns - they serve only their master's will.
  • Disintegrating
The Dark Magic binding has failed. Both flesh and necromantic energy slough off the subjects, leaving naught but dust.

Attributes

  • Causes Fear
This unit frightens all enemy units, reducing their leadership when nearby. It is also immune to fear. Fear penalties do not stack.
  • Causes Terror
This unit can cause terror, making its melee target rout for a short time. Units that cause terror are immune to terror and fear themselves.
  • Encourage
This unit provides a Lord's aura and an encouraging unit will receive the larger of the two bonuses.

Strengths & Weaknesses

  • Spellcaster
    This unit can cast spells.
  • Armoured
Armoured units can block damage from any source apart from Armour-Piercing damage.
  • Scaly Skin
Scaly skin or hides help to dampen or deflect the damage caused by missile weapons, increasing this unit's Missile Resistance.
  • Armour-Piercing
The damage of armour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets.
  • Duellist
This unit is best used to attack individual targets such as Heroes. As it can only damage very few individuals at a time, it is not suitable against hordes of weak enemies.
