When soldiers first came to the new world they found that bulky suits of armour were not needed. This was due to the poor quality of the native weapons and the humid climate proving to be very uncomfortable. The answer to this was to armour themselves with a cuirass, which provides good protection of the body and allows easy movement.
踏上新大陸的軍隊發現他們原來沉重的全身盔甲頗為累贅，因為土著武器十分簡陋，無法對他們構成太大威脅，當地潮濕氣候亦令全身貫甲極不舒服。因此，他們以輕便胸甲取代了全身板甲，既能提供足夠防禦，亦令部隊機動力大為增強。
