Peasant Spearmen

Starving and garbed in rags, these peasants have low morale, no training and no armour. Still they volunteer for battle, gathered by the Yellow Turban rallying call that travelled word-of-mouth through the fields from peasant to peasant.

Bamboo usually harvested for the profit of exploitative landowners is sharpened into makeshift weapons, turning the products of oppression against the oppressors. Stakes are braced against the enemy cavalry that tower above as these spearmen pray that numbers will overwhelm stronger forces.

Unit Abilities

• Caltrops
  Simple nut husks, once trodden upon, cause extreme pain and slow movement.
• Miasma
  The dense and tough undergrowth that plagues the jungles of the South is a hindrance to all those who try to penetrate into the heartlands of the Nanman.
• Loose
  The unit spreads apart, making it more difficult for arrows to hit them.

  Can hide in forests.

  Idle soldiers will burn down nearby buildings.

Strengths & Weaknesses

• Role: anti-cavalry
  These units are strong against flanking units such as cavalry, so are best used to protect vulnerable flanks.
• Expendable
  An inexpensive unit of easily replaced individuals that can be sacrificed for the greater cause.
• Cannot adopt advanced formations
  These soldiers are not disciplined enough to adopt advanced formations.
