日耳曼戰士在空曠、平坦的戰場容易受到攻擊，但是在山地和林地中戰鬥時，他擁有優勢。他們大多數是在茂密的森林被當做獵人培養起來的，非常擅長秘密調遣和發動伏擊。雖然他們的戰鬥戰術經得起考驗，但是他們的長弓，通常長達兩米並用紫杉木制作而成，不像東方制作的復合弓那樣強大而準確。他們的弓箭也稍微欠缺：有限的鐵資源供給意味著這些人通常射出骨頭箭頭的弓箭，很難刺穿敵人的盔甲。在戰場上，弓箭手跟在投石手身後，利用他們前面戰士的盾牌獲得一些保護。
