1	200	Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de mêlée / (ind_armoured_swordsmen) Utkrsta Khadgadhara (Indian Chosen Swordsmen) Boasting handsome salaries, these soldiers are exceptionally well-trained and equipped with broadswords, mail armour, circular wooden shields reinforced with iron, and darts/javelins, with thick turbans as headgear. They are equipped to suit a fighting style that is more expressive and fierce compared to their lesser counterparts.

2	300	Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de mêlée / (ind_axemen) Parasudharah (Indian Axemen) These axe-bearers are not guards, but regular soldiers. They wield long two-handed iron axes with wooden or bamboo handles. Since they wear little to no armour and do not carry shields, they are vulnerable to missile fire, but their halberd-like poleaxes can cut through infantry and cavalry alike. Axemen like these can be seen on grave paintings in the Ajanta Caves.

3	200	Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de mêlée / (ind_guildsmen) Sreni Pattya Yoddaha (Indian Warrior Guildsmen) These infantrymen, members of self-regulating professional guilds called "Sreni," are equipped with the best that money can buy. For defence, they wear armour of iron and brass scales over a quilted cotton cuirass, with additional protection for the arms, legs, and shoulders. For offence, they carry a large sword-axe made of high quality iron from the mines of Magadha.

4	200	Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de mêlée / (ind_heavy_swordsmen) Ksatriya Uttarapatha (Indian Heavy Swordsmen) They carry metal round shields and are armed with Khanda swords. These warriors make quite good assault infantry and their swords may cut through most infantry.

5	200	Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de mêlée / (ind_macemen) Ksatriya Gadahasta Yoddhr (Indian Macemen) Warriors from the higher tiers of the Kshatriya caste, these men have chosen to fight with the mace, a weapon with substantial symbolic importance in India. These men are professional soldiers, paid by the government and very well trained in combat. Heavily equipped and well trained, these men are excellent infantry to send into the fiercest melee.

6	300	Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de mêlée / (ind_swordsmen) Ksatriya Khadgacarmadharas (Indian Swordsmen) Armed with big chopping swords and tall shields, these swordsmen are the shock infantry of Indian armies. The kukri swords they wield have a curved shape, resembling the Greek kopis, but are bigger. They are likely the product of Hellenic influences on Indian armament, where the Indians have adapted the shape to fit other purposes as well.

7	300	Infanterie de mêlée / Infanterie de mêlée / (ind_tribal_swordsmen) Thazhvar Sirupadai (Dravidian Sickle-Swordsmen) The Dravidian Hindu tribes, inhabiting regions of southern India, are fearsome warriors, wielding the Aruvaazh (or Sickle-Sword), a single-sided heavy sword. They wear no armour, much like the North Indian tribes. These men are more spiritual and fanatical, hence they are very warlike in nature. Their attitude gives them tirelessness and ferocity in battle.
