Guardias

Estas tropas de guarnición con lanza también desempeñan el papel de guardias de la ciudad, escuadrón antidisturbios y bomberos.

La guardia estaba estacionada alrededor de Roma y era responsable de tratar con cualquier problema que se produjese al caer la noche. Mantener la paz era solo uno de sus cometidos, también eran los bomberos de Roma. Estaban equipados con una bomba de agua que les permitía apagar pequeños incendios, pero el fuego podía propagarse rápidamente por lo cerca que los edificios de Roma estaban entre sí, así que a veces se derruían edificios para abrir los incendios. Los guardias llevaban esto a cabo a gran velocidad e incluso tenían hombres especializados en quitar tejados y derribar paredes. En los casos extremos, utilizaban los onagros para derribar los edificios en cuestión de segundos.
