Daylamite Cavalry

When horsemanship is in their blood, high-quality infantry can easily become high-quality cavalry.

The Dailamites were people of the mountains. They were known as barbarians who live in the middle of Persia, but never became subjects to Persian rule. Although it has been suggested that they originated nearer the Tigris River in Anatolia, they nevertheless made their home in the Alborz, a mountain range to the north of what is now modern-day Iran. They were a very warlike people and skilled with many weapons, including the uncommon for eastern warfare battle axes. Known for their fierceness, Dailamite men were employed by the Sassanid Empire as high-quality infantry during the wars of late antiquity.
