Strong formations make these troops deadly from the front but vulnerable if flanked. They are highly effective against cavalry.

1	256	Melee Infantry / Hoplite/Pike Infantry / (AOR_29_chalybes_spearmen) Chalyboi Doryphoroi (Chalybes Spearmen) The armour of these spearmen consists of a leather helmet, greaves, and a long quilted linen tunic. Instead of the leather pteryges of a Greek corselet, the Chalybes have plaited cords to provide protection below the cuirass. Their main weapon is a long spear. They are useful against light infantry, but their lack of shields means they are vulnerable to enemy arrows.
