Although they are versatile units protected by shields, melee cavalry are weak against more specialised units.

Wearing long robes or tunics of skin down to the knees, sometimes with decorated edges, these camel riders are equipped with spears and wicker or leather shields. They do not use reins or bridles; in fact, they drive the camels in the same manner as the Numidians drive their horses: with a stick and a rope wrapped around their necks. In addition, due to the repulsive smell, horses detest camels and try to avoid them in battle.

Exceedingly loyal to their lords, they are much more reliable than their Eastern levy counterparts, and their experience in years of both tribal skirmishing and warfare has made them into warriors of surprising merit and skill.

The men of the guard are equipped with a lance, sword, shield and leather armour. Agile and powerful, they can be used anywhere on the battlefield and against any enemy.

Their helmet is an evolved Boiotian one, and their primary cuirass is a quilted silk one. Their weapons are clearly Hellenic: a round aspis shield, a short kontos spear that could be held underarm in a couched stance, and a sturdy kopis for when the spear gives way.""

Reidonez ride small and sometimes poor quality horses, though they are excellent light cavalry. They are useful as scouts as well as skirmishers. However, like many Germanic warriors, they can lack battle-discipline and be overeager to enter battle against worthy opponents. This can lead them to be headstrong and difficult to restrain before a fight, as personal glory gained in battle is always welcome. Honour and standing come from fighting, and sometimes the urge for glory overwhelms their good sense!
