The Massalians are forced to live under constant military awareness with drills, patrols and military training due to the unstable relations with the neighbouring tribes, as well as raids and the Carthaginian threat. The Palaimachoi Hoplitai are a corps of heavy hoplites comprised of veteran and picked hoplites who are experienced from these constant conflicts, and are equipped by the Massalian state with a new type of chainmail armour of Massalian design.
