Cavalry / Chariot / (Afr_Chariot_Raiders) Merkabim Garamantim (African Chariots) The Berber nobles and chieftains ride across the desert in large chariots from which they throw spears and javelins at their enemies. The rock art of the Garamantines depicts their chariots as being driven by two horses, which seems a realistic number. |

Melee Infantry / Melee Infantry / (Num_Melee_Infantry) Surby Numidim (Numidian Swordsmen) Numidian infantry may not be as reliable as the heavy infantry of other countries, but they will suffice. These men have some experience in combat, and have been equipped and trained with armaments including large leather Thureos shields, swords and throwing spears. They wear tall conical helms characteristic of Numidia and simple loose tunics which are common across Northwest Africa at this time. |

They are armed with javelins and a sword of North African origin, similar to the Takouba used these days by the Tuareg people. The Maures are protected by a shield made of elephant hide and by a tunic made of animal fur that they use like it was a breastplate. |

Missile Infantry / Missile Infantry / (Num_Archers) Qasatim Numidim (Numidian Archers) Since the earliest times, the Numidian people have fought from a distance. They ruled over the sands and mountains with slings, javelins and simple bows. When the Phoenicians came they pushed many of the nomads further into the harsh interior. The nomads soon adapted to the weapons of these outsiders and became acquainted with the composite bow. |

Melee Infantry / Spear Infantry / (Afr_Garamantine_Spearmen) Dorkim Garamantim (Garamantine Spearmen) The Garamantine warriors are masters of hit and run tactics. Launching raids from their oasis strongholds, they attack towns, outposts, watchtowers, and nomadic tribes. They strike first with throwing spears and javelins and, when necessary, can engage in close combat with their spears and leather shields. They wear a cow skin cloak for protection from dangers on the battlefield as well as from the environment. |

Rather, these men are best used to encircle the enemy and to chase down those who attempt to flee the battlefield. |
