Keltohellenikoi Thorakitai
(Celto-Hellenic Infantry)

These shock infantry are Celto-Hellenic 'men-at-arms,' Celtic warriors of a mixed culture. While they are not of especially great station, they are capable warriors fighting in the Celtic manner, in a motley combination of Hellenic and Celtic gear and dress: long Celtic shields, a Greek helmet, a Celtic sword, and javelins. They soften up an opponent with their javelins and charge an enemy once they're weakened with the great force of Celtic warriors.

Milites Ilergetum
(Illergetan Soldiers)

These Iberians wear a helmet of typical Ilergetan design, with the characteristic neck guard, padded armour and large scutum adopted from the Gallic tribes across the Pyrenees. For weapons, they use javelins and a longsword, most likely imported from Gaul through the Greek colony of Emporion. Greek and Phoenician elements are also abundant in their culture, foreign motifs being common in their art. While not an elite contingent in the Ilergetan army, these troops are good quality. They are brave and relatively well-equipped, dependable line infantry.

(Casse Champions)

All the Celtic cultures follow hero worshipping traditions, and the Britons are no different. Among the southern tribes especially, there are warriors of exceedingly great skill, who use Gallic equipment. The Calawre (Call-a-oo-re) are not typically considered to be recognized champions, but they are wealthy and skilled. They have good armour and high-quality Gallic swords. They are called champions more on account of their appearance than their abilities on the battlefield, where in reality they serve as an all-purpose heavy infantry. They are adept and professional warriors, but their cost - in terms of equipment and training - limits their numbers.

The Silurae Birnai (Sel-oor-ay Bern-ay) are a tribe from the south of Cambria. Renowned for their ferocity, skill, and discipline, they offer up fine spearmen to their lord: braver than most others, and more sturdy and skilled. They are, for all intents and purposes, little more than local spearmen, but with greater training and skill. The Silures act as both anti-infantry and anti-cavalry soldiers, and can also be used to pepper an enemy at distance with javelins. They are disciplined and capable of standing in orderly lines, and use tight formations at times to absorb enemy charges.

Warriors from these tribes are high-spirited and very eager to fight given the chance, so they have decent morale, but their lack of armour is a detriment in a prolonged engagement, or if they are flanked.

(Taurisci Axemen)

One of the last Ligurian tribes to survive the Boii and Gallic invasions and assimilation, the Taurisci survive in central Italy. Seen as barbarians by the Romans and most of the southern Italic civilisations, they are equipped with a scutum, javelins, and a deadly light axe, similar to the Illyrian and Venetian tribes. These axemen are renowned as assault infantry.

Aside from their large contingents of Drapanai, the Pelekuphoroi are the common warriors of the Karp and Kostobok tribes. They wield bronze axes and have sturdy round shields. Their scale leather provides adequate protection against Scythian arrows and Bastarnae spears but will do little to stop a heavy, curved falx blade. These fast, hardy troops are best used in ambushes, hit-and-run attacks, or flanking manoeuvres against heavier warriors, but are fierce enough to stand in the battle line if the situation demands it.

They are hardy mountaineers, but too poor to afford better equipment than weapons like wooden-tipped javelins and shock weapons like the battleaxe.

The Drapanai contingents are made up of resolute warriors, well aware of their role as shock troops on the battlefield. While the average Getic soldier tells himself he is immortal, more than any others the Drapanai join battle without fear of death. They fight bare-chested, wearing only trousers. Their trademark though is the falx, a vicious blade capable of severing limbs and causing horrible wounds with a single, crushing blow. Their lack of armour is a drawback against concentrated enemy missile fire, so they should not be exposed to enemy ranged attacks needlessly.

Later, this weapon would find its way into the Macedonian army of Alexander, used during several sieges by specially trained soldiers to kill city defenders.

The kestros is a dart thrown by a specially made sling, or propelled by a staff on a sling. It takes a long time to reload, but allows for more deadly and accurate shots than any other weapon of the time if correctly used, thanks to the shape of the darts, which can fly straight and precise trajectories. This weapon is mentioned in a Polybian account about new weapons in the army of Perseus, shortly before the last open confrontation between the Macedonians and the Roman Republic (169-168 BCE).""""

Their incessant fighting in more recent years against migrating Celtic tribes led many of them to adopt the Celtic-style longsword, which makes them deadly when closing in for the kill. Unlike most other archers though, these men can perform well in close combat, although they are most effective against weakened, exposed, or tired foes.

Pictone Lugoae
(Caledonian Levies)

The Caledonians are a fierce people on the edge of the world. Beyond Caledonia stretches a great, empty ocean, and Caledonia itself is home to a rather isolated people. They are seemingly relics of a former era of Celtic history, they do not have great deals of iron, and so do not produce many swords. They instead fight with more practical weapons, spears, javelins, and slings. Balroae (Bal-ro-ee) are a vast number of men, of many ages and varying levels of experience. Seemingly fearless, and wild, their bodies are tattooed in esoteric spiral designs, their hair is spiked and red, and they are remarkably fearsome. They are very hardy and brave; their lifestyle demands it. Alone, a disciplined army would destroy them, but if incorporated into a more tactics minded commander, they may prove more useful.

Their helmet is an evolved Boiotian one, and their primary cuirass is a quilted silk one. The Hellenes called all men living in modern-day Romania and northern Bulgaria for Getai after this tribe, while the Romans called them Dacians, which is the norm today.

60 Liburna - Epilektoi Pelekuphoroi
Light Ship / Melee Ship / (Bar_Assault_Bireme_Dac)
Liburna - Epilektoi Pelekuphoroi
A liburna is a light war galley of Illyrian design with two rows of oarsmen, but lighter and faster than a standard bireme. Ideal for use in raiding and coastal patrol, this ship would soon be adopted by Rome and become the most common ship in later Roman fleets.

(Dacian Axemen)

Aside from their large contingents of Drapanai, the Pelekuphoroi are the common warriors of the Karp and Kostobok tribes. They wield bronze axes and have sturdy round shields. Their scale leather provides adequate protection against Scythian arrows and Bastarnae spears but will do little to stop a heavy, curved falx blade. These fast, hardy troops are best used in ambushes, hit-and-run attacks, or flanking manoeuvres against heavier warriors, but are fierce enough to stand in the battle line if the situation demands it.

A trireme is a 37 meter long oared warship (galley) with three decks of oars, developed from the bireme in the 5th century BCE. Popular with Carthaginian, Greek and Roman navies, this is the main warship of the classical age.

A quinquereme is a 45 meter long galley with three decks of oars, in a pattern of 2-2-1 oarsmen, developed around 400 BCE by the Syracusans. Its large size allows many marines on board, and also allows ballistae to be mounted on the large decks.
