Spearwomen

Mighty warriors go in fear of these ferocious maidens.

There are several legends from the ancient period concerning the exploits of Germanic female warriors. Womens' graves have also been found to contain spears, shields, and daggers, indicating that they may have fought alongside their men on the battlefield, rather than in a purely defensive capacity when their settlements were attacked. It was certainly common for women to have status and power within Germanic tribal society; they were able to inherit them following the death of their fathers or husbands, and could even demand divorce following an unsuccessful match. In common with the traditions of their Celtic neighbours, the opinion and judgement of Germanic priestesses and female elders was highly respected by all.
