Indirect Taxation

Direct taxation of our citizens is considered degrading and servile, and therefore to be avoided. Indirect taxes, on the other hand, carry no such stigma. Excise is charged on goods sold at the harbour and in our markets, whether the produce is for import or export. Our intent in pursuing this policy is purely for the city’s benefit, with the taxes levied on everyone, regardless of status, be they citizen, slave, or visitor to our shores.
