The Miracle of the Crane

Our engineering prowess has led to the invention of a mechanism, comprised of wooden beams, ropes and sheaves, which can lift and move heavy loads, called a 'crane' - an innovative, labour-saving device meaning that fewer workers are needed on construction sites. The crane is operated by men or large animals with strong backs. Recently, we have considered the addition of winches in order to move even heavier weights. Larger and ever-more impressive buildings are now within our grasp!
