Defend the Pomerium

It was during Roma's time of kings that the city's urban centre was expanded beyond the Palatine Hill and the adjoining Forum. Now, it includes the Quirinal, Viminal, Esquiline and Caelian Hills, the area known as 'City of the Four Regions'. The sixth Roman king, Servius Tullius, established a sacred boundary around it, including the Capitoline Hill as well. The resulting sacred area was named the 'Pomerium'. Since then, it has been the duty of all Roman citizens to defend the Pomerium - the 'Heart of Roma' - with honour, and their lives if necessary.
