Enaree Council

The Enaree was a mystic figure within Scythian tribes, a shaman described by the historian Herodotus as 'androgynous'. They venerated nature and used tree bark to foresee future events, which meant that the Enaree shamans were probably feared by ordinary folk but extremely important to the chieftain. For example, recruiting warriors for a raid might be ruined by an Enaree's prediction of failure. In turn, this means that chieftains were willing to support their shamans in order that they might proclaim favourable omens.
