Pictone Lugoae
(Caledonian Levies)

The Caledonians are a fierce people on the edge of the world. Beyond Caledonia stretches a great, empty ocean, and Caledonia itself is home to a rather isolated people. They are seemingly relics of a former era of Celtic history, they do not have great deals of iron, and so do not produce many swords. They instead fight with more practical weapons, spears, javelins, and slings. Balroae (Bal-ro-ee) are a vast number of men, of many ages and varying levels of experience. Seemingly fearless, and wild, their bodies are tattooed in esoteric spiral designs, their hair is spiked and red, and they are remarkably fearsome. They are very hardy and brave; their lifestyle demands it. Alone, a disciplined army would destroy them, but if incorporated into a more tactics minded commander, they may prove more useful.

Vocontae Epos constitute the bulk of Vocontii cavalry. Well-trained compared to many of their enemies’ cavalry, they are invaluable to any army. They throw javelins at a distance, depleting an enemy before charging with their main spears. They are trained to throw javelins, charge, and withdraw repeatedly, and they do it well. A bronze helmet, shield, and light weapons may not seem the equipment of any particularly great cavalry, but they are a solid medium cavalry force, capable of running down routers, defeating light cavalry, and skirmishing if necessary.

These Iberians wear a helmet of typical Ilergetan design, with the characteristic neck guard, padded armour and large scutum adopted from the Gallic tribes across the Pyrenees. For weapons, they use javelins and a longsword, most likely imported from Gaul through the Greek colony of Emporion. Greek and Phoenician elements are also abundant in their culture, foreign motifs being common in their art. While not an elite contingent in the Ilergetan army, these troops are good quality. They are brave and relatively well-equipped, dependable line infantry.

Kampanioi Hoplitai
(Campanian Hoplites)

These men are typical hoplites, wearing feathered or crested helmets, along with greaves and breastplates. Their weapons include the dory, xiphos, and the classic large aspis shield. However, they are more mobile than classic hoplites, useful as flanking heavy infantry rather than a central phalanx unit.

Taurisci Securiferi
(Taurisci Axemen)

One of the last Ligurian tribes to survive the Boii and Gallic invasions and assimilation, the Taurisci survive in central Italy. Seen as barbarians by the Romans and most of the southern Italic civilisations, they are equipped with a scutum, javelins, and a deadly light axe, similar to the Illyrian and Venetian tribes. These axemen are renowned as assault infantry.

(Lucanian Hoplites)

Lucanian troops have fought in the ranks of Pyrrhus' army. Some of them are roughly equivalent to the Oscan infantry, but others are equipped as hoplites, with the usual panoply. Like the Campanians, they can give a good account of themselves as medium-heavy support infantry.

(Scandinavian Skirmishers)

The Sitones are a Germanic or Finnic people who reside just above the Suiones (Swedes). It is said that these people are very much like the Suiones, except they are ruled by a woman, which goes against the Germanic custom. Each warrior is armed with a bundle of throwing spears, a slightly longer spear for melee, and a stout ovular shield, but they do not wear armour.

From lands with a harsh climate in eastern Svealand, these people are accustomed to fighting every day for their own survival. In warfare it is up to each man to prove his own bravery and worth, so their uniquely savage charge into the enemy enables them to perform slightly better than their neighbours in that respect.

Although the club is a crude and primitive weapon, it is still widely used by many nations throughout the known world. A club is efficient against shields, and especially any unit in a shieldwall, the most common tactic of any Celtic army. Suebi clubmen use a light, one-handed club, so they can carry and throw javelins at the same time.

The Markamannoz are a famous tribe, warlike but organised on the battlefield. Among the elites, they have famous spearmen, the Speutagardaz. They are skilled enough to form impressive shieldwalls with five meter long spears, a rather unusual feature. Speutagardaz use long spears with a short and narrow head. They are well equipped, probably having light axes, reinforced leather armor, and a leather and scale helmet, which is lighter and cheaper than the usual iron helmet, but highly protective.
