Bronze Mint
Men starve their families for love of bronze.Around 390BC, it is believed that a flock of geese kept in Juno's sanctuary on the Capitoline Hill saved Rome by warning of the impending Gallic invasion. Later, the Roman general and consul Marcus Furius Camillus built a temple on the hill in gratitude for that warning. The first Roman mint was built adjacent to the temple and the coins it produced depicted the head of Juno Moneta. In early Republican times, bronze was yet to be overtaken by iron, and was still established as a common medium of exchange; most commodities were bought and sold by 'bronze and balance'. The bronze coins were stamped with Juno's face as, following the geese's warning, she was considered the protector of money and guardian of wealth.
