Stables

A warrior cannot ride a sheep into battle!

Horses played an important role in Celtic society, both spiritually and practically. Many Roman writers freely admitted that the Celts were excellent horsemen, and they went as far as calling Celtic mercenaries the best cavalry in the Roman army. The Romans even adopted a Celtic deity in the hope that she would bestow the equine knowledge and skill of the Celts upon Rome. Epona is one of very few deities to be accepted into the Roman pantheon without change, although her role did develop over time. Eventually, she provided protection for all those who worked with horses and not just the animals themselves. She was a popular deity among the Roman cavalry, and her cult spread across Europe wherever the Romans had cavalry garrisons.

60 Issedones
Cavalry / Chariot / (bel_chariots)
Issedones
(Belgae Chariots)

Chariots are without a doubt the most specific characteristic of any Belgic army. On the flat plains of the Brabant, from northern Frisia to Normandy and the Champagne plains, chariots are masters of the battlefield. Celtic chariots are light platforms with low handlings, and a complicated but very advanced system of suspension and rotating axle. When the battle rages, they launch their heavy javelins at short range, being sure to kill with each throw.

(Belgae Heavy Skirmishers)

These skirmishers don't have helmets, but they do wear leather armour and carry good quality shields. They use exceptionally heavy javelins to pierce any armour or shield. They are Excingoi", flank attackers, usually posted behind lighter units, and can repel any infantry counterattack with tremendous efficiency."

30 Rigessedones
Cavalry / Chariot / (bel_noble_chariots)
Rigessedones
(Belgae Noble Chariots)

Celtic war chariots are present in all major clashes of Belgic forces. Well suited for flat terrain, Belgic chariots are a safer place for nobles than the front line, on foot. Coming at great speed from behind their own lines, they strike in the confusion of the battle from the rear and the flanks.

Acuadrettoi
(Belgae Skirmishers)

These light infantrymen are usually young Belgic peasants, like Bagaudas, but courageous and impetuous enough to attack the enemy from a distance. They use a small and very light wicker shield, and throw a volley of light javelins, called Verutum" by the Romans."
