Stables
A warrior cannot ride a sheep into battle!Horses played an important role in Celtic society, both spiritually and practically. Many Roman writers freely admitted that the Celts were excellent horsemen, and they went as far as calling Celtic mercenaries the best cavalry in the Roman army. The Romans even adopted a Celtic deity in the hope that she would bestow the equine knowledge and skill of the Celts upon Rome. Epona is one of very few deities to be accepted into the Roman pantheon without change, although her role did develop over time. Eventually, she provided protection for all those who worked with horses and not just the animals themselves. She was a popular deity among the Roman cavalry, and her cult spread across Europe wherever the Romans had cavalry garrisons.

Cavalry / Melee Cavalry / (cel_boii_early_noble_cav) Uerigeporedoi (Early Boii Noble Horse) In the past, Boian noble cavalry have used heavy wargear, including their big scutum, but in an imitation of other cavalry units, they have quickly abandoned it in favour of a smaller and lighter round cavalry shield. They fight with a long cavalry spear, essentially a lengthened gaesum, and the classic longsword. |

Cavalry / Melee Cavalry / (cel_boii_late_noble_cav) Verrix Uerigeporedoi (Late Boii Noble Horse) Boii cavalry is modelled in imitation of the Etruscans, Raetians, Ligurians, and of course Celtic Gauls, like the Cenomani and Insubres. These late noble horsemen are equipped with chainmail, but some still use bronze armour and greaves. Etruscan style helmets are also worn, as proof of bravery. |

Cavalry / Missile Cavalry / (cel_boii_light_cav) Rigeporedoi (Boii Light Horse) Those wealthy enough can serve as horsemen instead of foot soldiers. Like the common Celtic cavalry, they are versatile, using gaesos for throwing and thrusting, and carrying a long sword for close combat. |
