Shrine of Yarhibol
"Among the sands of the deserts he watched over the trickling waters."Near the city of Palmyra there was a spring called 'Efqa', one of many that turned the city into a green jewel amidst the sun-scorched Syrian desert. People believed that it was home to an otherwordly guardian in the god Yarhibol, who was possibly an ancient personification of the spring itself. As the city of Palmyra grew, its populace became ever more sophisticated in line with their veneration of Efqa. Yarhibol came to be associated with the sun, and played an important role in civil business, the Palmyrenes considering him a divine judge and a patron of just conduct and honourable behaviour.
