Knowledge of the Oak

The oak tree was revered by the druids, who believed that the plants which grew on it were signs from the gods. Mistletoe was the most sacred of all and gathering it was an important druidic ritual. The chief druid used a golden hook to remove the sprigs of mistletoe from the oak and then carefully caught them in a white cloth, as they were never allowed to touch the ground. As a gift from the gods, mistletoe was thought to be a remedy for any known poison, as well as a cure for impotency.
