 The Sweat Lodge is a ceremonial structure which can take many forms. Most commonly they resemble a domed hut with a hole dug into the ground. Once built, heated stones are placed in the hole and a ceremony is conducted under the direction of a medicine man. Water is poured over the stones to create steam and often medicinal plants are burnt on the stones as well
