King's Radif

Favoured nobles must pledge service in return for privilege.

The Lakhmids were clients to the Sassanid Kings. Originating in Yemen, on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, they settled and ruled from Al-Hira, in what eventually became central Iraq. Al-Hira was said to be a paradise on earth, but more importantly was a Sassanid asset outside of Arabia. As Sassanid clients, they rendered military service to their overlords, as well as taking a political role - even helping the Emperor Bahram V seize the throne in AD420. The Lakhmids also fought against the Eastern Romans throughout the 4th century alongside the Sassanids, who offered religious tolerance and freedom from Roman Orthodox Christianity.
