Horses, goats, sheep, cattle were kept by the nomadic tribes, not just for food, but for everything else they offered - clothing, material for their \'yurt\' shelters, and even bowstrings made from the treated guts of goats and cattle. Sometimes, the nomads barely had enough of these essentials to survive, but at other times there were surpluses that could be bartered or traded for the other things they periodically needed. Of course, nomads didn\'t just trade with the settled people they came across on their travels, they also met and traded with other nomads, and when a horde was assembled, members of the same confederation.
